Best Articles of 2015
by Adam Tornhill, February 2016
I'm proud to announce that my articles made it to the top of ACCU's survey for people's favorite articles of 2015. ACCU publishes two magazines. My article Meet the Social Side of Your Codebase made it to the top in the Overload magazine while Writing a Technical Book: Motivation, Publishing and how to stay focused without ruining your Life made the second place in the CVu magazine. These awards actually mean a lot to me. Yes, really, they do. Let me explain how it all started.
The first ever conference I attended was ACCU 2003. Back then, I considered myself a GREAT programmer. I think it's fair to say that it took less than half the first conference day for me to realize that I was far from great. I'd been trapped in the advanced beginner mode. I now understood that I was mediocre, at best. It was a tough realization. ACCU gave me a frame of reference, a measuring stick, that I've been using ever since.
At that conference in 2003 I also got my first copies of CVu and Overload, and of course I joined ACCU. I remember that I was (and still am) very impressed by the high quality content of the magazines. Someday, I wanted to be able to write about programming. Perhaps even write an article for one of ACCU's magazines. A crazy thought back then, but who knew?
It's been a long time since 2003. But now you know why I'm so happy about this feedback. On a day like this, it must be okay to boast a little, isn't it?
